I need some help understanding what is going on with my FAFSA Money?

So I got the letter and everything and the money went though and stuff. My dad wants me to go get my check for the money left over from the FAFSA so I go and they tell me I just got a Loan not a Grant. I got 1750 subsidized and 1000 unsubsidized. So I'm just wondering what is going on with the excess money.
