Why did Miranda kill Doug in the movie Gothika ?

what i think happened was when miranda saw the girl at the bridge and touched her the girls soul went into miranda and probably killed doug for doing sumthing to her [the girl] and she wanted to get revenge because miranda promises she didnt do it so thats why i think the girl did it but im not sure can sumone explain to me
